WHY I’M RUNNING

I am City Treasurer and Rich Township Trustee Steven R. Burris, a resident of the City of Country Club Hills for over 35 years. My lifelong commitment to community service began at 14 years old, working to elect my uncle, Roland Burris, the first Black statewide elected official in the great state of Illinois. Since then, I have dedicated my life to improving the lives of others and building a better future for the next generation.

I have been honored to serve as your City Treasurer and Rich Township Trustee, and I am proud of the progress we have made together for the betterment of our city. As your fiscal watchdog, I have made it a point to always choose the side of Country Club Hills residents, workers, and families. I led the fight to reduce wasteful spending, promote fair government, and bring transparency to municipal decisions.

Looking ahead, I want to protect our senior citizens, meet our residents' everyday needs, and expand critical services for our youth—building targeted programs that keep our teens on the right track, especially at a time when federal funding for these areas is being cut. Through my work as a Rich Township Trustee, I have collaborated with eight different municipalities to help them achieve their goals, ensuring families are fed through our pantry and that seniors and youth receive the extra programming their individual cities might lack. I will continue to remain deeply accessible to all residents of the Southland across local, state, and federal levels.

As Mayor, I will always side with working people to keep Country Club Hills safe and affordable, while creating a government that listens to and delivers for residents in all five Wards. I understand the urgency of this moment, and I know the power we have to make life better for everyone when we work together. I hope I can continue to earn your support.
